Post-Christmas Present Reveal Pt. 4

I think this one has got to be my FAVORITE of all the Christmas posts… and it was so simple!!

Homemade Chai in a Mason Jar!

Homemade Chai in a JarI found this recipe here and I made it for myself about a month ago. Since then I have tea just about every morning and I thought this would be a perfect addition to both my mother’s and mother-in-law’s gifts this year!

Ingredients

I started out with these ingredients…

Mix one

Stuck them all in a bowl…

Mix Two

And mixed!

Blender

As you can probably see, the mixture is not very fine at this point, hence the blender.

Blending

The blender turns it into a beautiful, fine powder that mixes perfectly into your steaming water.

Jars

I filled a jar for both moms and, as you can tell by process of elimination, that’s our gigantic jar in the middle. Clearly, I planned to make a LOT of tea for myself/I have judgment problems with everything related to size, weight, etc. I accidentally bought a HUGE jar. Oops!

Back/FrontHere is the finished product! Chai tea, complete with directions.

Label

*You can adjust the flavor of your tea with the amount of mix you add to the hot water. I prefer 3tbsp, or about 3 spoonfuls, but you can adjust accordingly!
Also, the ingredients listed above made about 2 1/2 batches of this stuff! So great!

Post-Christmas Reveal Pt. 3

This post is so delayed because we didn’t do Christmas with my parents until just yesterday!! I put together little “gift basket” type gifts for both of them. Last year I made my dad a “mustache mug” and it turned out to be quite a hit! So I made them BOTH some fancy mugs this year.

Mugs & Pen

I got the mugs from Target, just like the one from last year. It’s the perfect size for them to get maximum coffee from their Keurig.

PEN!

**Please note the paint pen I used was NOT a regular sharpie… I tried that dumb idea that’s been all over Pinterest, but the Sharpie just wiped off every time. Very frustrating. So, I re-did the mugs with this pen, let them sit for 24 hours, and then baked them at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. I left them in the oven to cool for another hour or two and then they were ready to go!

Dad's 2

I thought Dad might get a kick out of this one. :)

Mom's

And Mom’s fancy mug. There isn’t a mustache for her… but since there are now 2 mustache mugs at the house, I thought hers should be a little different. And it’s like a “good morning” from me every morning!

Mugs

Hope y’all had a WONDERFUL Christmas and HAPPY NEW YEAR!:)

Post-Christmas Present Reveal Pt. 2

MORE PRESENTS!!!

My mother-in-law, Teresa, had me stumped for a while. Here’s (part of) what I came up with!

Wreath

Granted, that is OUR door, not my in-laws, but I needed somewhere to display that pretty wreath for pictures:).

Wreath 2I can’t tell you the second part of her gift until after we see my parents, because I made one for my mom, too!

However, I must give a shout-out to Mosby and her mom for helping me via picture text while I picked out the arrangement for the wreath. I sent her picture after picture at Michael’s because I was shooting for a winter-not-Christmas-not-fall looking wreath… and I struggled. I just like browns and golds too much!

ProcessThe biggest picture is the arrangement I ended up buying. The brownest one was my first, but it was way too fall-ish.

Do you think the wreath looks like a “winter-but-not-Christmas-or-fall” wreath?

I’ll post the second half of her gift and the rest of the handmade Christmas gifts after we celebrate with my parents! Happy crafting!

Post-Christmas Reveal Pt. 1

PRESENTS!!!!!

I did not make crafty gifts for everyone this year, but I did make a few fun gifts for some of our family! Here is handmade present number 1, a personalized gift for my sweet sister-in-law Olivia!

Jewelry HolderWhat girl doesn’t love jewelry? And don’t you need somewhere to put all those pretty accessories? Well, I made her a fun earring holder to display all of her cute finds! I found the frame and stand at T.J. Maxx (my favorite store ever) and I already had the burlap!

Earrings

I bought her some dainty earrings both for fun and so she’d know what the thing was when she opened her gift:)

BackThe back is not nearly as cute, but it does the job. And the stand helps, I think ;).

Other Gifts

To complete her gift, I gave her a cute journal, also from T.J. Maxx…

A Little Less Talk, and a Lot More Decoration

Frame OneFor those of you who saw the sneak-peak on Instagram & Twitter, here is the final product! I found this idea here, and it was super easy. I love it because it is simple, cheap, and adds just a little something to an otherwise very bland wall.

Our wall

Frame 2Frame Three

I also love this project because it’s so customizable. You can choose whatever phrase you want to emphasize, whether that’s an idea or attitude you want to encourage in yourself or just something silly, like the example I found.

These 5×7 frames were 30% off at Michael’s and I had an additional 25% off coupon, so they were less than $4 a piece! The only other supplies necessary were a book and a pen, both of which I had on hand, so this project cost less than $12. It isn’t much, but I’m currently enjoying the view:).

The viewYes, I just aired our dirty laundry on the internet. Oopsies. I hope you don’t mind that we’re people and we live here.

Coat Rack

And that coat rack on the right currently holds about 6 jackets, 3 coats, 2 scarves, 2 purses, a book bag purse thingy, and my school back. Yep. It’s messy and I like it. (And that’s about the only thing I like that’s messy around here).

Happy crafting!

So You Like My Tree Skirt?

Thanks!! Me too!!

But I can’t take all the credit… I totally got the idea from Pinterest. Busted, I know.

However, I did spend a lot of time on it, so I will accept your compliments and continue enjoying myself while I sip my coffee and admire how precious our tree looks with that beautiful skirt underneath it.

So pretty, right??

So pretty, right??

Any-hoo, in case you didn’t bother following the link to the original tutorial, I’ll let you know what I did.

I bought the cheapest tree skirt I could find, since we didn’t already have one I could use as a base for this project.

Original

Not cute, I know, but totally perfect for this project. I had a lot of leftover burlap from other projects, so I went to Hancock Fabrics and bought 2 yards of a deep, pretty red color. This is a NO-SEW tree skirt project, by the way. Glorious, right?

Then I started hot gluing the pretty red fabric to the ugly skirt, starting with the outermost rim. I started each row at the slit in the skirt, that way I could still open up the skirt to get it around the tree afterwards:). I glued small sections of fabric at a time and folded the fabric over at the top to create the ruffled look. I continued all the way around until I came back to the slit, and then I started the next layer with the burlap. I repeated this over and over until the whole skirt was finished!

Completed Skirt

Sounds easy enough, right? And it was! However, this project honestly took about 5 hours, so if you’re planning to do one similar to this one, block off some serious time!I was also really sore afterwards from sitting hunched over on the floor for so long working on this… ha! And I went through a TON of glue sticks. And I mean a ton.

Huge

It’s also rather huge, and since I liked where we already had the tree (I didn’t want to pull it out any farther from the wall), I just folded the back of the skirt under so it lines up with the wall. You can’t really tell, and it works for us! This skirt will look great with a bigger tree in years to come, as well!Pretty

When I was searching for a cheap skirt to start out with, I saw skirts priced from $25-$35! All in all, this skirt cost about $15 between the original ugly skirt, the red fabric, and some extra glue sticks. I’d say that’s a win because this one is way cuter than many of the other ones I saw while shopping! :)

Skirt

And what could possibly scream Christmas more than this pretty picture?!

Yes

*Disclaimer: I am sorry that I’m completely obsessed with our Christmas tree and all I ever want to do is look at it, take pictures of it, and repeat.

Confessions: Katy Perry & The Craft Bug

Jacob and I watched the Katy Perry movie last night.

Yup, it’s true.

And I actually enjoyed it. Anyone else out there who wants to own up to that with me?

I just thought it was so interesting to see her story–I’m a sucker for stories, people. And it was interesting, to say the least. I honestly appreciate her more now because I understand more of what she stands for, and I like it! She’s all about being you and sending the message to everyone that it’s great to be yourself, no matter how “weird” you seem. I think that’s a great message to send kids. Granted, I don’t really love her Peacock song (which I hadn’t ever heard before watching the movie)…. but I still like her and was inspired by her drive to make her dreams come true.

And for the record, I don’t think Jacob enjoyed it quite as much as I did :), but he sat through the whole movie with me… what a great husband!

On a completely unrelated note, Fall Break starts next Wednesday after class!!! Needless to say, I have several projects lined up for that free time and I’m getting SO EXCITED to start them. I’ve got plans for 3 currently bare walls in our apartment, and I’m ready to get cracking! I’ve been so excited that I started on one yesterday because I just couldn’t help myself. This place is really starting to feel like our little home, cozy and welcoming. Yay!

Just for fun, here’s a little arrangement I made a few days ago because, again, I just couldn’t hold off my craftiness until fall break…

These flowers were leftover from the other 3 arrangements I made for our apartment, so I just threw them together in this jar from our wedding so they wouldn’t be in a pile on the floor. It’s incredible how much more homey and warm flowers can make a room.

Now I’m off to Michael’s so I can use my 50% off coupon before it expires!
