Awkward & Awesome Thursday

Awkward

-The fact I’m in my pajamas every. single. time. the mail lady or FedEx guy comes up to the door to deliver a package. That’s also the time when I realize just how much the television is BLARING.

-I worked a lunch shift last week for the first time in probably six months… and it showed. When I greeted my first table, I brought them their silverware, checked over their receipt to see if I needed to make any salads, and then told them to “enjoy their meal”… which they didn’t have yet. They looked at me blankly so I tried to recover by saying, “Which I will bring out to you as soon as it’s ready!”…………….. duh. I sounded like an idiot. I also said “Good afternoon!” to them when it was still morning, which they also very kindly pointed out to me. Great.

-Not knowing we had a roast beef sandwich on our lunch menu (this is what I get for only working dinners all the time… rusty.) and stammering all over the place in response to the customer.

-My server book with all my money, receipts, pictures, Bible tracks I’ve received (yeah, for some reason I’ve kept those for fun?) and the rest of the junk I keep in it falling and scattering all across the floor on my way to deliver a drink to a table. Mind you, he was the only customer in the entire restaurant at that time and this fiasco occurred right in front of him. That felt good.

-I thought THAT was really awkward until the NEXT night when I spilled my entire server book into the TRASH CAN and across the floor. That got the attention of an entire table, who proceeded to watch (and laugh) while I dug through the trash to find my receipts and cash that fell inside…

-A party of 13 asked me to sing our dessert menu to them… Seriously??? That is so awkward. And embarrassing. And mostly just awkward. I didn’t do it. Maybe the most awkward part is that after they left I wished I had?

Awesome

-Have I mentioned Christmas BREAK?! Trying to soak this one in, seeing as it is the last one I’ll have ever.

-Coming home from work one night last week to see Jacob had wrapped presents for me and put them under the tree! Not only was I excited about just the presents themselves, but he also used pretty paper to wrap them (that coordinates with the rest of the presents) and tied ribbons around them!!!! Ribbons!! With bows! I also have these cute little tag cutout things (from the wedding) that I’ve been using to label the presents, and he even punched those out and labeled the presents! My heart melted from his serious effort to go along with my Christmas cuteness. Gosh, I love that man.

-I got all A’s this semester! Woop!

-We had a WONDERFUL Christmas with Jacob’s side of our family, and now we’re looking forward to Christmas in Ohio with my side next week!! Counting down the days!

This face. AKA me trying to get away from Jacob's foot.

This face. AKA me trying to get away from Jacob’s foot.

-Clicking the unlock button on my car keys to unlock the front door of our apartment.

-Running from our front door to the dumpster in my pajamas to take the trash out because I didn’t want to change just for that reason… As far as I know, no one saw me. :)

-Walking up to the car in the parking lot, only to realize it wasn’t mine when I tried the handle and it wouldn’t unlock.

-Trying to cook with butternut squash yesterday. How the heck do you peel the skin off of that thing?! Talk about a mess all over the place.

-Speaking of cooking, why do we ever use chicken thighs? If trimming the fat off of those suckers wasn’t the biggest wake-up call to hit the gym, I don’t know what could be. It was really gross. I think I’ll stick to chicken breasts from here on out…

Awesome

So and So

My Storytelling class put on our “Buffalo Tales Storytelling Event” last week and it was a blast! We all got to share our favorite story we told from class and we got a great crowd!

-Receiving an A on my big research paper in my Communications Law & Ethics Class!

-Laughing with my husband and enjoying a nice dinner together this week:)

-Christmas break officially starts today! I kicked it off by returning from my last exam (it started at 8am!) and immediately snuggling back into bed for another hour. Life is goooooood.

-Speaking of Christmas break, although I’m picking up a lot of extra shifts at work, I will have about 50% more free time… and I’ve decided I’m going to use that time to get in the Word, exercise, get my craft on, and relax. Maybe even read a book or two for fun. The goal is to make this month rejuvenating.

Awkward & Awesome Thursday

Awkward

-Still typing in my old password to my gmail account. Yep, just thought I would update you that I’m still in that 12-month-long rut. Must. Remember.

-Anytime  I feel remotely under the weather someone asks me if I am pregnant. Seriously? Just because we’re married now does NOT mean we’re going to have babies anytime soon…

-Every day I overdress for the “cold weather.” I discovered today the root of this problem. I check the weather on my phone every morning, and it gives me the day’s high and low weather. Since it’s the beginning of my day, I assume the temperature will be the low… even if it is 11am when I walk outside for the first time. I realized today that just because it is the beginning of my day, that does not mean that it is also the beginning of everyone else’s day… Wow. Lesson learned. The world does not revolve around me.

Awesome

-Putting up our first Christmas tree!! Pictures of our Christmas decorations to come:)

-Listening to my fellow students in chapel today singing

To our God we lift up one voice
To our God we lift up one song
To our God we light up one voice
Singing Allelujah

Can you say magical? I felt overwhelmed with God’s presence today.

-Getting 12 hours of sleep last night. Today was the first morning I woke up feeling genuinely well rested and ready to tackle the day in quite some time. I think that sleep was the last thing I needed to kick this sickness thing in the butt! Feeling great today!

-This picture of me I found from Nick’s graduation.

So cute. Great photo skills, Nick! You really captured my good side;)

-Waking up the other morning very confused as to where I was. I was in my bed… but in my dreams I was in a whole different realm. Like a princess realm. Guess I’ve been watching too much “Once Upon a Time…” :)

-Watching two people going opposite directions try to fit through a door frame at the same time. Hilarious.

-When Jacob and I have to use the bathroom at the same time, in our one bed, one bath apt. Also hilarious.

-Walking up to a table at work to find a 50 year old woman dressed as a straight up fairy, crazy makeup and all. Do I ask or do I act like normal???

Awesome

-Scoring a clearance chair ($70 instead of $199!!!!) and 5 clearance pillows for the living room! This place is starting to feel so homey! Thank you TJ Maxx (chair) and Target (pillows)!!

-Receiving two great surprise packages from Mom! We now have our first fall decoration and some yummy supplies for a meal next week:)

-Sitting on the couch with Jake last night laughing our heads off at pictures of cats on Pinterest.

Case in point.

That’s serious quality time right there.

-My iphone shipped yesterday and will be here any day now!! Whoop whoop!

Awkward & Awesome Thursday

I’ve been reading Sydney’s Awkward and Awesome Thursday posts for a while now, and they are just so funny I couldn’t help myself. So here’s to (maybe) the start of Awkward & Awesome Thursday’s here!

Awkward

-Oversleeping and therefore missing my first class on Monday, just to receive a “Hello, Lauren!” from that very professor on my way to my NEXT class. Glad I was wearing sunglasses and didn’t even notice her until she greeted me… so I probably looked like I was trying to avoid her. Sweet. Oh yeah, and then missing her class AGAIN the next day because I overslept. Again.
-Every time I greet a table at work and they don’t even look up to say hello. Talking to the top of people’s heads is really fun.
-I tried a new recipe last week that called for “dry white wine”… so I spent a LOT of time wandering around the grocery store looking for what I pictured dry white wine to look like. Needless to say, I didn’t find any packets of powdery wine…….
Good thing I have friends who are smarter than me (and more practiced in the kitchen!), thanks Mosby for telling me that it’s actually white wine!

Awesome

-Watching my sister-in-law Emma during her color guard performance at her high school football game last Friday. She’s a freshman and has worked so hard to learn the routine–and she did great!!  I know I couldn’t twirl those flags and catch them like that!!
-I have to be honest, that football game took me back a little bit. I actually felt a little nostalgic about high school. It made me miss my good friends and all the fun Friday nights we spent at football games.
-I’ve started Jillian’s 30 Day Shred again–and it has been so good. I actually tried Level 2 the other day for the first time (whoop whoop!) and it was a good challenge. I’ve done Level 1 so many times I pretty much have it memorized word for word, so it was nice to have a change:). And, boy, I can feel my body is changing… every time I try to move!
-After over-dramatically stressing about school this week, my AWESOME husband planned our meals, bought all our groceries, and put everything away for me before I even came home from school yesterday. Not only that, but he also bought me an iphone!! Talk about some serious love. And now I can join the rest of our generation with a smart phone! Well, after it ships to me later this month. :)
-And lastly, I FINALLY uploaded some pictures from my bridal shower last spring with my friends from school, so I thought I’d share a few. Reviewing the pictures reminded me how loved they made me feel that day!! Thanks again, my friends!:)
